- I grew up in a christian home and always knew of Jesus. I knew the Bible stories, went to church, etc. I strayed as most people do. But the difference between now and then is this.....I only just "got it" within the last couple of years and what I mean is - I would tell myself, especially after college, "if I could only get back in church, then I could get my life right with God." Or "okay, if I could just live a certain way, get back in church, get involved in group activities, study the bible, etc. then I would be right with God and I would feel better about everything again"....I could "reconnect"....The problem with that is I was trying to come to God on my terms. I've only just come to realize that none of that will make me right with God. It only makes me a slave to a list of things that I can't possibly achieve because I am human and I am not righteous. But ONLY by God's grace through Jesus' life, death and resurrection, am I right with Him. When you realize that being a believer is not following a list of do's and don'ts or attending every church event possible, you have a freedom and a joy that you have never felt before. (There's nothing wrong with any of this, and you want to do it because you want to learn of your savior. But it does not give you salvation!) All this time I never stopped to consider that it's not about me, but about Jesus. HE HAD ALREADY DONE IT ALL! Who am I to think that I could ever offer anything to God? But because of Jesus and JESUS ONLY, I can be right with Him. There is nothing you can do to make God love you more, but there is nothing you can do to make God love you less! Once you TRULY "get it" and understand that it is ALL of him and NONE of you, it is a freeing thought. Just remember that God's love is unending, unchanging and he never strays from you. You may stray, and you will, but He doesn't. It's easy to reconnect. He is ALWAYS right there!
- what does it mean to you to be a Christian
- It means that Jesus has redeemed me through his Life, Death and Resurrection. He took the burden of my sin and saved me through HIS blood. He gave Himself willingly as a sacrifice for ME even though I don't deserve it. And now because of HIM, I will one day live an eternal life with my Lord! Free from tears, burdens, sin, heartache, sadness....
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21:4
